18th Annual Gala – A New York Winter’s Eve
On Monday, December 9, 2013, Volunteers of America-Greater New York hosted its 18th annual gala, a New York Winter’s Eve, in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel.
The elegant evenin was hosted by emcee Paige Davis and featured a dinner curated by Chef Todd English. An exciting live auction was conducted by Andrew Brandman. Guests gathered to celebrate Frances Hesselbein, The Duane Reade Charitable Foundation and HSBC and to raise funds for the charity’s broad range of social service programs.
Funds raised benefit Volunteers of America and the more than 90 social service programs that help tens of thousands of our neighbors in need. Families recovering from domestic violence, frail older adults, preschoolers with special needs, adults with mental illness, families and individuals — including veterans — who are homeless, and boys and girls about to age out of foster care are just some of the people Volunteers of America serves every day. Their mission is to help the people live safe, healthy, and productive lives.
TGI Office Automation was pleased to be a part of the event as a Sponsor. TGI donated tickets to the TGI VIP Suite for a Brooklyn Nets Game at the Barclays Center. Volunteers of America stated they were grateful for the individual and corporate sponsors and in-kind donors whose generosity made the 2013 gala a memorable success. TGI is proud to support the efforts of Volunteers of America in its dedication to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.
For 117 years, Volunteers of America has been helping the most vulnerable among us to believe, once again, that hope is on the horizon. We give hope to the single mother who is holding down not one but two jobs, yet still does not earn enough to move her family out of the shelter. We give hope to the veteran, whose family fears for his well-being because he is reluctant to appear weak and seek counseling for his debilitating PTSD. We give hope to the father who has lost almost everything because of his addiction and is looking for someone who will give him a second chance at being a role model for his sons.
